The two practices that I found to be the most beneficial to me were The Subtle Mind and Meeting Asclepius. I think that both exercises taught me how to settle my usual racing mind. Although I am very new at the practice of meditation, I find that I use these two practices in my daily routine. I find that I am taking time out of my day to take deep breaths and calm my mind. At night, I try to focus on the strength of my loved ones. I feel more grounded as a person, and I feel like I can reach people on a different, more personal level.
Thanks,
Aaron

Aaron,
ReplyDeleteI chose Meeting Asclepius also, but was not able to do the Subtle Mind properly because my cd was messed up. I agree with you that I also have a mind that races and darts from one thing to another quite often. If you have the time or are able, you might want to start jotting down the random thoughts you have. I started this and found that once they are written down, I do not think about them as much and I have also noticed that when I review the list, it is made up of frivilous things. It really showed me just how much unnecessary worry and mental activity I go through on a daily basis. I am glad that you have gained such benefits from engaging in deep breaths each day to calm your mind. I hope you will continue to grow and reach out to others on a "more personal level."
Hi Aaron,
ReplyDeleteLike you I have a racing mind as well, and writing down those random thoughts really does seem to help. I was rather fond of the Subtle Mind and Meeting Asclepius as well and I am glad that you have reached a level of soliding grounding and are able to connect with others on a more personal level. If nothing else, that ability in and of itself is more than worth the tuition of this class:)

Hi Aaron,
ReplyDeleteI think that is wonderful that you are concentrating on your loved ones more and realizing the importance of these exercises. I learned that if my mind is not calm, it is hard for me to focus on the task at hand. I try to keep my mind free of unwanted thoughts and negativiy in order for me to function better. Thank you, for sharing with us.
